Caring close to home
Wristband Number: 5204
I have always believed that making a difference in the world is best achieved by doing all that you can to help the people in your life. It may not be glamorous or come with lots of recognition, but I think that it is where you can make a real difference. So when a friend in need asked for my help, I felt honored and grateful that I could help her. My friend lost her employment as a result of doing the right thing (whistleblowing). The choice came at great personal expense and her legal bills placed her in a difficult financial position. At the same time, her college aged son began increasingly expereincing suicidal ideations and behaviors. I had a chance to support her in several ways-to be a listener, to be by her side, to bring her closer to him, and financially. I thought, “what better way to spend my time and money than to help a friend in need”. There is no donation; no demonstration that would have a greater impact. I was so happy that I could be there for her when she needed me.
