Tropical Storm Imelda
Wristband Number: 784297
Tropical Storm Imelda dumped more than 40 inches of rain in Texas, causing catastrophic flooding in Southeast Texas. I live in Beaumont and I am so gratefully that my home did not sustain any significant damage and my family was safe from the storm. Many people in the area who were impacted by Imelda were also affected two years ago from Hurricane Harvey. At work is where I heard about the site paramedic Nancy’s situation. Nancy’s new vehicle had flooded and she was without transportation. No vehicles in the area were available to rent and insurance claims can be slow especially when there are limited resources. Nancy was dependent on her elderly mother to take her back and forward to work.
Hearing Nancy’s story and knowing Nancy had endured a similar loss during Hurricane Harvey two years ago (flooded vehicle and home) I felt the desire to assist. I have two vehicles and decided to lend my work truck to Nancy in efforts to relieve her worries/stress. Nancy was very grateful but this gesture gave my family the opportunity to recognize our blessings. I was happy to hear from ‘a happy Nancy’ that her insurance claim was resolved and she was able to replace her vehicle in a week.
I was approached by a co-worker who presented me with a green wristband. I am so impressed with this campaign and how these kind gestures of care are recognized. I warms my heart to see so much goodness spread, keep up the great work! Thank you so much.
